Competition Format
Everything you need to know about how the Fusion Styling championship is structured and what is required on competition day.
Time & Format
60-Minute Live Competition
Competitors have 60 minutes to create a complete, fully realized styling look on a live model. All work must be performed on stage in real time — no pre-styling, pre-braiding, or pre-shaping before competition begins.

Technique Freedom
Multi-Technique Fusion
Competitors may combine multiple techniques into one cohesive design — including braiding, loc styling, extensions, texture manipulation, and advanced sculpting. The design must demonstrate intentional fusion, not a collection of disconnected elements.

Model Requirements
Competitor-Supplied Model
Competitors must provide their own live model. Models must arrive with hair in the natural, unaltered condition required for the styling division — no pre-styling or pre-preparation permitted before competition time begins.

Technical Execution Focus
This division is judged using the Styling Technical Criteria scoring system: 85 performance points + 15 compliance points = 100 total. Judges evaluate execution, cleanliness, balance, cohesion, integration, creativity, and presentation.

How You Will Be Judged
Judged using the Styling Technical Criteria: 85 performance points plus 15 cleanliness & compliance points. All competitors are evaluated by HEBS-trained, certified judges. Scoring is based strictly on visible execution — not personal preference.

Nicks or Cuts (per violation) –3 pts
Winner is determined by highest average score across all judges. Each judge scores independently. All judging decisions are final.

Quality of technique execution across all methods used. Each technique must be applied with control, skill, and professionalism. The combination must look intentional and cohesive.

Neatness of the overall presentation — no frizz, stray hairs, or product buildup. A clean, polished finish that reflects professional standards throughout.

Know Before You Compete
Key Competition Rules
All competitors are responsible for understanding and following the rules of their category. Violations may result in point deductions or disqualification.
No Pre-Styling Permitted
No pre-braiding, pre-styling, pre-shaping, or pre-parting of any kind before the competition begins. All work must be performed live within the 60-minute window.
Multiple Techniques Must Be Combined
The design must incorporate more than one technique — braiding, loc styling, extensions, texture manipulation, or advanced sculpting. Single-technique entries do not meet the division requirements.
Stop When Time is Called
Competitors must immediately stop all work the moment time is called. Continuing after the time limit results in deductions or disqualification.
Models Must Meet Requirements
Models must arrive with hair in the natural, unaltered condition required for this division. Competitors are responsible for their model's preparation.
Professional Conduct Required
Professional attitude and behavior is required at all times on the competition floor. Disrespectful or disruptive conduct results in deductions.
Clean Station Required
Workstations must be maintained throughout — organized and free of excessive debris. Station must be fully cleaned at the conclusion of competition.
