Competitors have 30 minutes to execute a complete, clean fade on a live model. The division is designed to showcase foundational barbering skills — clean execution and professional presentation above all.

Judged using the Barber Technical Criteria: 85 performance points plus 15 cleanliness & compliance points. All competitors are evaluated by HEBS-trained, certified judges. Scoring is based strictly on visible execution — not personal preference.

Nicks or Cuts (per violation) –3 pts
Winner is determined by highest average score across all judges. Each judge scores independently. All judging decisions are final.

Judges evaluate whether the competitor demonstrates a clear, professional grasp of foundational barbering technique — proper tool use, sectioning, and execution that reflects genuine training.

Smooth transitions between lengths with no visible lines. Consistent gradient and seamless flow throughout the fade. The quality of the fade is the primary technical marker in this division.

Sharp, clean edges and crisp detailing around the hairline and perimeter. Precision of the lineup must reflect the standards of professional barbering — even at the rookie level.

The overall structure of the finished haircut — symmetry, proportion, and how well it complements the model’s head shape. Balance must be consistent and intentional from all angles.

Know Before You Compete
Key Competition Rules
All competitors are responsible for understanding and following the rules of their category. Violations may result in point deductions or disqualification.
Full Fade Required
A full fade is required. Tapers, blowouts, and mohawks do not meet the division requirement and will result in score deductions across all criteria.
No Enhancements Allowed
No enhancements of any kind are permitted. This division tests foundational skills only. Any enhancement results in disqualification.
Simple Design Only
Any design element must remain simple, clean, and minimal. Complex or artistic design work that exceeds the division's scope does not reflect the evaluated criteria.
No Pre-Cutting Permitted
No pre-cutting, pre-styling, or pre-shaping before the competition begins. All work must be performed live within the 30-minute window.
Stop When Time is Called
Competitors must immediately stop all work the moment time is called. Continuing after the time limit results in deductions or disqualification.
Nicks or Cuts Result in Deduction
Any visible nick or cut caused during service results in an automatic –3 point deduction per violation.
